Reaping. — Chapter 1

A fanfiction about Hunger games in Books » Hunger Games

`I woke up at 12:00 PM. My mom let me and Belle sleep in because it was Reaping Day. Reaping Day was a god-awful day when 1 child's name gets chosen to be sent to death, the arena. Before electronics they used a big bowl, kind of like what they use for bingo. But now they use a computer generator. 50 children get chosen to go to an arena and murder each other. I am 100% against it. Thank god that the chance of me getting picked is not high at all. The older you are, the more times your name is entered into the computer. Since I am only 13, my name is in it only 2 times. Other people have their names like 7 times! I am safe.

At 2:00 we were in our towns center watching a large screen. Each large town had a screen like this that shows the lady, Jennifer, click the big red button to reveal the child's name. I wore a purple shirt and tight jeans with my ugg boots. "Sabrina!" my friend Chelsea yelped as she ran towards me. "I am so scared that my name will be picked. I am 14 this year, that means 3 times!" I sighed. Chelsea was always so dramatic. "You will be fine. We are both young". As soon as 2:45 striked the screen turned blue then showed Jennifer, with her blazing red hair, smiling at us. "Welcome U.S.A! This years Hunger Games are starting before we know it! As always, I am going to start with Alabama and work our way down. Ready? OK!" Personally, I think she is brainwashed my the government. NO one should get this excited about, death. "Lisa Reymond!" Her voice was getting on my nerves. The screen showed a girl hugging a boy. She looked about 17. 5 more names were called.Jason, Kelsey, Jane, Carter, Brooke. It was now Connecticut's turn. Without even realizing it I held my breath. "Sabrina Chester!" her voice giggled. "Lot's of girls this year!" My head was spinning. I only had 2 tickets out of thousands. 2 small tickets. me? me. I was as good as dead. My mom looked at me. I glanced her way, then to Belle. That was my goodbye, one glance was all I got until my head hit the floor and everything when black.
