They say I died the night I was born. That I was dead for a week. Yet, my mother couldn't let go of her first child. She had kept me safe, though my spirit was gone. One day, I remember opening my eyes and seeing her crying, holding me in her arms. I didn't know what had happened, but I was reborn. When I was seven, I started seeing things. People around me, started to change. They weren't human anymore. I ran when I saw my mother with horns. I was almost safe when she found me.
It was past midnight and the woods were silent when she caught me. Holding me high above her head she squeezed. The life was leaving me once again. I will always remember that night. It was the first time I saw Him. He had saved me, though he hadn't intended to. The demon that I once knew as my mother was cut down before my eyes. Brilliant flashes exploded around me, every time it happened her hold would almost falter. When the last flash came I fell to the ground among her severed limbs. I looked up to see an angel.
Hair the shade of night and eyes like bloody wrath. He stared down at me mercilessly. Even covered in blood, he was amazing. I gazed at him, mystified. I couldn't comprehend someone like him saving me. He was a demon, but I'd follow him to the deepest bowels of hell.
Without a second glance in my direction he was gone. His companion smiled, emerald eyes filled with sorrow. I was left alone in the woods. I vowed to find him and thank him one day. I would have died yet again had he not appeared.
If only I could've have forgotten him. Then I wouldn't have sought him out. But every detail of that night had burned into my mind. Especially his name. I barely heard it, his companion telling him they needed to get going. Hiei. He would always be my hero.
