I didn't ask for this to happen, this was forced upon me.

My name is Raphael Valentine, and I am a Cocoon l'cie. Eden is my master, and it is my job to fulfill the inescapable focus it gave me. My  mission was to kill the Pulse l'cie tasked with the focus of destroying Cocoon.  Eden knew that they were going to kill Barthandelus instead of Orphan, so  had to kill at least the four native of Cocoon. The two from the Pulse village of Oerba were allowed to live, since they could be trusted to destroy Cocoon. These were the instructions Eden gave me, and they were as clear as day. It obviously wanted me to carry this out as well as I possibly could.

What would I get in return? I would get to live after I awaken, when the maker returns to create the world anew. I get to live among a new kind, a kind of people who didn't live in fear. I hated the world the way it was today, a world of fear and lies. I lived every day as if it were my last. I was ready to carry out this focus to the end. I didn't have any regrets, I was going to help start a rebirth of a new and better world. Nothing stood in my way.

Until I met her, then everything changed....
