Plan AD: 16 Deaths

Introduction — Chapter 1

A fanfiction about Zach,Tyler, death,Pokemon in Games » Pokemon

Authors Note: Hi guys! This is my first fan-fic that I've written in a long time. I've had the idea for this story in my head for a while and a few friends asked me to write so I'm setting it up with this. I plan to go into longer chapters but I'm not especially good at writing long chapters. It normally takes me a lot of breaks to write things >2000 words. Hopefully this intro generates some hype for the story and I can get some critiques for it, suggestions, and other things.

If you'd like to help me with something, I really need help with introducing a characters features without forcing it. I had a lot of trouble with this in my last fanfic and I've tried to avoid it in this intro, but it's pretty hard. Well, that's all for now. Rate (Do you do that here?), Comment, and Critique!

They told us that we were crazy, that we couldn’t do it. They said it was too expensive, that it would defy science as we know it. But that didn’t stop us. We were determined to go through with Plan AD. Not for fame, not for fortune, and not for the progression of science. No, we did this because it felt good, because we wanted to.

“Tyler, pass me the monkey wrench will ya?” The familiar voice came from under the machine we were working on. Zach moved out into the light, squinting, stood up, and stuck out his hand knowing I had the wrench ready.

I looked up at him, “Here ya go. Before you go back under, you might want to take a shower. You’ve been working under there for so long your hair’s gone from curly and red to flat and brown! Besides, it’s getting late.”

“You go on ahead; I think I’ll keep working. Just for a little while longer.” And I did go on ahead. I thought about staying, but I know better than to argue with Zach when he wants to do something. I took a shower and got into the cot we keep in the lab for sleeping. We’d accomplished a lot today, and I was tired.

“TYLER! I DID IT! IT’S DONE!” Violent shaking alongside this screaming woke me from my sleep.

“You finished it?” I asked groggily.

He told me about how we had mixed up a part of the internal engine that was preventing it from starting up and running. “I’ve got it running,” he explained to me, “I just haven’t tested it yet. I need someone who knows how to operate the main controls.”

Zach really wasn’t the brightest. He had good knowledge as a mechanic, and that was what made him so valuable to our team. There used to be others on our team. There was one man, Aura, who was going to be huge to our project. He was a respected professor among the regions, but especially here in Sinnoh. His appearance was that of a beggar; he wore clothes that were ripped and kept his dark hair as messy as possible. Genius he was, though, he figured what we were doing was impossible, just like the rest of the professors. He left us to join a field squad investigating new Pokemon instead.

“Tyler, can you do it?”

“Oh, yeah, yeah, I’ll get ready.” While Zach went to the machine, I stood in front of the mirror putting on my pants and coat. I looked at myself in the mirror. The same as I’ve been since I graduated from University. Same short, brown hair and same pale skin. I guess it’s because I never got out much.

I got over to the machine to find Zach looking slightly uncomfortable. Not usually like this, I asked him about it. “I’m just hoping everything goes fine. If this works, we’ll have done it, man! We can perform the experiments and tests that we can’t here!”

I nodded at him as I got into the machine with him. It wasn’t very roomy, that’s for sure. In the plans I had originally written for it, it wasn’t a cylinder, it was a cube. It also had a lot of colors. I always liked colors. Unfortunately, the only color on this machine was the dull gray of the steel used to construct it. It only enough room for about three people, but we could manage.

I set everything I needed to. Coordinates, scales, landscapes - everything was ready. “As soon as I flip this switch, we’re gone. Are you ready?”

“I’m was born ready,” Zach answered.

“3…2…1,” and I flipped the switch.
