Water crashed against the shores, rising ever so slowly as the young woman struggled to free her love from the chains that bound him. Tears flowed freely down her face, splashing onto his soaking clothes.
"You have to leave.." he rasped, choking on the water that splashed into his mouth from the sea, which rest less than an inch from his face. Slowly.. but not slowly enough. The cold lapped over the girl's knees as she, once again, took her knife to the steel. To no avail.
Another joined them - a young girl, just a few years of age. Her tattered dress was as wet as her parents', blood and water together.
"Mommy!" she cried, holding tight to a scrawny eevee kit. The pair's eyes were wide, the bright blue of the ocean. The same ocean that threatened to take their lives.
"Go.. you.. c- ca.. n't..." He closed his eyes, leeting out a whimper. Reluctantly, she broke into tears, grabbing her daughter. In moments, she was on the road, eyes filled with sadness and shock. It had all happened so fast.
As the bedraggled pair limped to higher ground, the man thrashed about, knowing his time was limited. Not long, now. Not long before he'd have his world.. The world he'd so long ago dreamed of.
Life was fading.
