I Will Always Love You
Chapter 9 — Chapter 9
"Greg, where have you been?" Jesse asked dismounting Spartan. He was really mad, but didn't want to show it. He had been searching all over the rodeo grounds for about two hours, and Spartan was getting tired.
"I have been there," Greg said pointing to some trees. "There," he said pointing to the pond. "What the heck I haven’t stopped walking since I got here."
"Anyway do you have that CD on you?"
"This CD?" Greg asked pulling a CD out of his jacket pocket.
"Greg, you’re the best," Jesse said taking the CD out of Greg's hand.
"What do you need my CD for?"
"Come to the ring tonight at the dance."
"There's a dance tonight?"
"Yeah, and Dream Street's singing in it."
"We are?"
"Yep, call Chris."
"Why do I have to?"
"Because, I don't have my cell phone, and you and Chris are like brothers."
"You and Chris are like brothers too."
"But I don't have a cell phone."
"Fine, here," Greg said holding his cell out to Jesse.
"Fine," Jesse said taking Greg's cell and dialing Chris's number.
"Hello?" Chris asked.
"Hey Chris, it’s Jesse. Dream Street has a concert tonight at the rodeo."
"What? Come on, Brian and Loui are working us like dogs."
"Brian and Loui don't know about this, All your doing is back up vocals, so all you do is sing some ooo's, aaaah's, and that kinda thing, then you can go back home."
"Ok, what time do I have to be there?"
"Be here about seven."
"Ok, well I'll see you later, bye." Jesse shut the phone and handed it back to Greg. "Now we have to go back to the trailer, cool Spartan off and go ask Brandi how Heidi did barrel racing."
"What is all of this we crap?"
"Well I'm sure not going to lose you again."
"I was never lost," Greg protested.
"Greg please, I'll need your help anyway."
"Fine," Greg said walking ahead of Jesse. He knew where he going and didn't need to follow Jesse.
"So Greg, are you going to help me sing?"
"Sing what?"
"You'll find out."
~with Darren~
Darren slowly walked to the trailer, he was thinking about Heidi and wanted to help her get Jesse back, but he also felt something when he held her in his arms. Heidi wasn't the same little girl he knew, Heidi had grown up and had changed so much.
It didn't take long for Darren to arrive at the trailer, and when he got there he heard music. He quietly walked around to the other side of the trailer where Jesse was standing with his back to Darren singing a song that Darren had never heard. Greg was standing at a CD player coaching Jesse on notes and words. The song ended and Greg turned the CD player off.
"Your almost as good as me," Greg joked.
"I keep messing up."
"Jesse, you didn't mess up once that time."
"Well how much time do we have until the dance?"
"Two hours," Greg said checking his watch.
Darren walked away from the trailer, he didn't know the song, but he knew what Jesse was going to do with it. "I had to tell Heidi how I feel about her," Darren though. He turned around and ran to the ring where he hoped he would find Heidi.
"Darren!" Heidi yelled running over to him and throwing herself into his arms. "I got second place!"
"That's wonderful!" Darren looked into her eyes. She had the most beautiful brown eyes he had ever seen. He lifted her chin up and kissed her lips. She threw her arms around his neck and stood on tiptoes to deepen the kiss.
"Your too tall," Heidi laughed ending the kiss.
"Well at least I don't need a saddle to get on a horse."
"Oh my god Starlight," Heidi said when she seen Matt giving Starlight water. "Matt she can't have water for awhile," Heidi said running over to them.
"Why?" Matt asked pouring water into his hand.
"Because she just finished running, she need to cool off."
"Heidi, Lakota drinks all the time after he finishes running."
"Starlight just finished racing Dreamer, her coat is soaking wet, and if you give her water she could colic."
"Sorry," Matt said putting the top on his water bottle.
"Darren could you take Starlight back to the trailer and cool her off, I'm going back to the trailer to get ready for the dance."
"Yeah, and you'd better hurry, the dance is in an hour and a half."
"I'll be done by then." Heidi said as Darren boosted himself onto Starlight's back. "And remember your cooling her off, so nothing faster then a trot."
"Alright," Darren said nudging Starlight into a walk and walking toward a path that lead to the pond.
~2 hours later~
"Jamie you look great, Matt is going to drool over you," Heidi said as they fixed their makeup. Heidi wore a pretty blue shirt that tied showing little of her stomach. Jamie wore cute blue flowy skirt that hit her knees. She also wore a grayish spaghetti strap shirt.
"You really think I look good?" Jamie asked.
"For the tenth time YES," Heidi said grabbing Jamie's hand and pulling her out of the dressing room part of the trailer.
"Wow, you girls look great," Matt said walking over to Jamie and holding out his hand. "May I have the honor of escorting this beautiful lady to the ball," He said in his best princely voice.
"I would be delighted," Jamie giggled. She took Matt's had and they walked to the ring where the dance was held.
"You’re really beautiful," Darren said looking at the ground.
"Let's stay up her for a little while longer," Heidi said laying down in the grass and looking up at the stars.
"There's something I've wanted to tell you all day," Darren said picking a blade a grass.
"What?" Heidi asked boosting herself up into sitting position.
"Heidi I really do..."
"Heidi," Heidi looked up to see Brandi running toward them.
"Brandi, what do you need?"
"Frankie needs to talk to you. He said it was important," Brandi said taking a deep breath.
"Ok I'll be there in a minute." Heidi stood up and hugged Darren. "I'm sure what you need to tell me can wait until later right?"
"Yeah," Darren said wishing that he had told her earlier.
"I would stay up here with you, but when Frankie says it's important, you had better see what he wants or he'll go crazy." In a way Heidi was glad to go, she liked Darren but wasn't sure if she was ready to move on. Jesse had meant a lot to her, and she was still kinda hoping he would come back to her.
When Heidi got to the ring she began looking for Frankie but couldn't find him anywhere.
"Hey Brandi," Heidi yelled over the music when she spotted Brandi.
"Frankie is up by the stage," Brandi yelled. "You'd better go see what he wants."
"Ok," Heidi said making her way to the stage. When She got to the stage a slow song started to play, but she didn't think anything of it, instead she kept looking for Frankie.
"This is a song for a very special girl, and I hope she knows that I love her very much," Heidi looked up and see a Jesse standing on the stage. She felt the tears come to her eyes, but she didn't try to stop them she just let them fall.
"This song was written by Greg Raposo," Jesse said as the rest of the introduction played.
"Distance can't stand in out way
Cuz I'll just miss you and
love you more each day
And as I feel you so close in my heart
It makes it impossible for us to be apart,
I close my eyes and your by my side
Staring at me with your beautiful eyes
and I can always be with you in my mine,
Cuz nothing can stand in our way,
Cuz we’re in love
I'm smiling more every day,
Cuz we're in love
And hold my heart it belongs to you
Hold it forever I will be with you
Oh we're in love," As Heidi listened to the lyrics she began to cry wishing that she wasn't fighting with Jesse.
"And as I stare out my window at stars in the sky
You're so far away but I’m still staring
at the same sparkle of your eyes
And though as we came to be you changed my world to just you and me
You're all that I can see,
All that I want and all that I need
Cuz Nothing can stand in our way,
Cuz we're in love
I'm smiling more every day,
Cuz we're in love
And hold my heart it belongs to you
Hold it forever I will be with you
Oh we're in love
And I thank God I found you
I'd give anything to be around you
And in my arms I’d never let you go
and oh every night away in my dreams
We're together and I'm holding you tight
I close my eyes and you're by my side
Staring at me with your beautiful eyes
and I can always be with you in my mind.
Nothing can stand in our way,
Cuz we're in love
I'm smiling more every day,
Cuz we're in love
Hold my heart it belongs to you
Hold it forever I will be with you
Oh we're in love." When Jesse finished singing he went to the edge of the stage and offered Heidi his Hand. Heidi grabbed it and Jesse helped her onto the stage as Dream Street walked down the steps and off the stage.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you, It's just..."
"Shut up and kiss me," Heidi said getting impatient.
Darren walked up just as Jesse kissed Heidi. He knew that he had to let her go, he was the one that agreed to help her get Jesse back. Now he was the one that got to walk away from all of this with a broken heart.
Heidi grabbed the microphone out of Jesse's hand. "Darren, get your butt up here," Darren made his way to the stage and boosted himself up. "Darren I want to thank you for helping me and Jesse out, you’re really a true friend."
"No problem," Darren said with no emotion in his voice
"But Darren you've been such a great friend, so this is for you," Heidi said handing the microphone back to Jesse and walking down the steps.
After a few minutes Heidi slowly walked back up on the stage with a little black foal following her.
"When did you bring him?" Darren asked petting the little head.
"I called my mom earlier, it was supposed to be a present for you when you asked me out, when I was starting to give up on Jesse."
"What? You were going to give up on me?"
"Jesse I can explain," Heidi begged. Jesse just stood there, Heidi stood there close to tears, Darren wanted to take her in his arms and hold her, but he didn't dare with Jesse standing there.
"Heidi you don't have to explain. I would have given up on myself too."
"But Jesse..."
"Heidi I love you, and I'm never going to let you go." Jesse said. Tears were streaming down Heidi's face, and she felt a little light headed.
"Please don't cry," Jesse said softly, then he reached up and wiped the tears off her cheeks. Then Jesse took her into his arms and kissed her.
"Don't ever leave me again," Heidi said when the kiss ended. Then she walked over to Darren and hugged him.
"Thank you so much, you the greatest friend in the whole world.
"If you ever need anything else, I'll always be there for you. Oh and thank you for the horse. Does it have a name?"
"His name is Darren.""What?!"
"I named him after you, he still needs his mom of course, but in six months you can take him." Darren bent down and rubbed the colt's only white spot, which looked a little like a D. The colt nipped Darren's arm hard enough to break the skin. Darren grabbed his arm and cursed under his breath.
"Well you've certainly earned you name," Darren laughed.
"Now do you see why I named him Darren? He's got the attitude you used to have."
"We're going to get along just fine, aren’t we boy?" Darren asked the colt. "Your going to need a second name so I don't get us mixed up."
"What about Rowdy?" Jesse asked.
"That's perfect," Darren said petting Rowdy.
