Albus Potter and the Horror of First Year

Gryffindor? Slytherin? — Chapter 1

A fanfiction about Harry Potter in Books » Harry Potter

Albus walked through the hall of the gigantic school, the other first-years behind him. He knew his cousin, Rose, was right by his side.

He was terribly nervous and the others didn’t help. Everyone was practically staring at him. He knew he looked a lot like his father, but he didn’t deserve the stares.

“I can’t wait until school starts, I wonder what kind of headmaster McGonnagall is? Its going to be a great year; don’t you think?” Rose blabbered on.

“Oh, um, yeah. Perfect.” Rose sounded so much like her mother sometimes, but Albus was busy looking over at Scorpious, who was glaring back. Whatever had happened between their fathers had gone down the line, he was sure of it.

“Quit freaking out about him, he’s just another student.” Rose rolled her eyes.

“I’m not freaking out.” He shot back as the doors opened and they were welcomed into the hall. “Now I am though.” He gulped.

“Doesn’t matter where you’re placed, Al.” Rose smiled, “So long as I beat you on tests, I’m fine.”

Trust Rose to bring school related topics up in his time of need.

They called his name.

“Just like your father my boy.” The hat spoke into his head, no one else could hear. “Very difficult to place…”

“Not Slytherin please.” Albus closed his eyes and thought hard.

The hat laughed out loud. “Gryffindor!”

Albus sighed with relief and went to join their table.

“Isn’t that your brother?” he heard someone ask James, probably Henry.

“No, ‘course not.” James replied, giving Albus a secret high-five as he passed.

Good, he was disowned. Albus smiled, maybe school wasn’t going to be so bad after all!
