Chapter 1:
Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto or any of it’s characters, I own Katie and Jazz belongs to a friend of mine. Also note that I don’t own the name Komamura since that belongs to the maker of Bleach which I also don’t own. But I do own some up coming items and characters.
The sun was hidden behind clouds of grey and the wind swept through the small pasture that I sat in, short wisps of bleached blond hair waving around gently. One of my best friends was laying at next to me, and we just stared up at the clouds as they rolled over our heads, the distant sound of thunder rumbling in the distance, foretelling of the storm to come.
“Katie! Katie come here, you got something in the mail honey!” A familiar voice called from not too far away and turning around I saw my Mother standing at the top of the hill holding a medium sized box in her arms as she watched Jazz and I lounge out in the middle of the pasture. “Oi Jazzy, get up.” I said turning and shaking the other girl’s shoulder lightly before I stood and brushed my darkly colored jeans off before I turned and watched Jazz do the same before we made our way up the hill towards my waiting Mother.
“What is it Mom? Where are you headed?” I asked after I took notice that she was holding the car keys in one hand while she passed the box to me with the other, Jazz looking at it from over my shoulder curiously.
“I’m not sure what it is honey, you’ll just have to open it and find out, won’t you? But I’ve gotta head into town for a bit, so I’ll see you both when I get back. Stay out of trouble and have fun.” The older woman said before kissing my forehead and quickly making her way to our golden mercury and driving away; leaving us to our own devises.
“What do you think it is?”
“I don’t know, it’s not that heavy so it could be a book or something.” I replied turning my storm cloud grey eyes away from the retreating car and two my two story log house. Throwing the door open I carelessly tossed my sweater off and placed the box on the counter while I dug through the drawers, looking for the scissors. “Katie, just use a knife or something to open the damn thing already!” Jazz exclaimed handing me one of the large kitchen knives I would normally use for cutting up meat or poultry.
Frowning at the idea of using one of my knives for a purpose other than what it was made for I took it with a sigh of defeat, it would just make this faster so what was the point of arguing with the tan brunette?
Quickly dispensing of the tape around the box I moved the flaps and packing peanuts out of my way to find a book that was obviously related to the Naruto series since the name was written in large letter acrossed the front, but other than that the cover was mostly blank. “Well that’s weird, I don’t remember ordering anything like this.”
“Maybe your Mom or someone else in your family did for you and just forgot to tell you.” Jazz offered and I just shrugged my shoulders as I held the cool plastic in my hands turning it this way and that as Jazz crowded close to my side while I flipped through the pages, frowning at finding them all blank. “That’s just weird, why are all the pages blank? Oh! Wait, wait go back, go back!” Jazz hissed jumping around beside me excitedly, but I did as she said and found that not all the pages were blank.
“Ashesto ashes dust to dust, combine thine soul with the world thou has never knew existed. New shape and skills you will have, serve us well chosen children of the book.” I muttered more to myself than anyone else in the room, and just as soon as the last word left my lips the book began to fall apart in my hands while the freed pages flew in a crazed whirl wind around us.
Bright dots of light flashed before my eyes and I could faintly hear Jazz screaming, but everything seemed so far away, I could barely keep up with where up and down were let alone if I was still even standing.
And as fast as the rush of wind and the rustling of papers came, it disappeared and I was left standing in the middle of what appeared to be a forest with outrageously large trees. Rapidly blinking my grey eyes I flopped over onto my ass, waiting for the nausea to go away and my head to stop spinning before doing anything. “Oh. My. God! Katie…is that you?” I recognized Jazz’s voice immediately and turned to find a girl I didn’t recognize sitting next to me. Perplexed I took in her pale skin and brown eyes, her hair was extremely curly and brown but was held out of her face by a pale green scarf with white beads sewn into it. She also wore a sleeveless tan turtle neck sweater with a dark brown elbow length shirt under it and large baggy pants with large pockets. Still staring I couldn’t help but mutter, “Jazz…you’re pale!” The other girl gave me an irritated look as she replied, “That’s the only thing you got to say to me?”
“Sorry, but you’re just so…pale.”
“Yeah and your eyes are neon blue, and your hair is like rust orange and long!”
“What?! No way!! Damn it the one time I actually need a mirror and I don’t have one.” I growled reaching up to grab some locks of my hair and pull it into my line of sight only to find that I could pull most of it onto my lap.
I gapped.
Not only had I gotten my dream hair, it was a gorgeous rust orange color (that’s what I called it at least) and it obviously reached some where around my waist. And that’s about when I noticed that I wasn’t wearing the cloths I had been earlier.
Now I was dressed in a pair of black jeans that laced up instead of having a button and a zipper (like regular jeans did) and my feet were clad in dark brown leather boots that went of to my knees. The shirt I was wearing turned out to be a black tank top with ice blue lining the edges with an icy blue star in the middle of the chest. The only thing on my person that hadn’t seemed to change was my sterling silver rose ring on my right middle finger, and for that I was thankful.
“Katie I don’t think we’re in Washington anymore.” Jazz said as she took the time to look around us while I was busy taking in my transformation. “No, ya think?” I said rolling my eyes with a slight shake of my head. “Well than Ms. Know-It-All, in lighten me?” Jazz snapped back at me as I took a look around myself.
For some reason I had this strange feeling that I had seen this forested area before, I was suddenly smacked in the head by a UFO; other wise known as an unidentified flying object.
“Ow!! Damn it Jazzy, why’d you hit?”
“I didn’t hit you Smart One, it was this bag.”
“Bag?” I mumbled sitting up and rubbing the large bump on my head while my neon gaze landed on a medium sized brown-black leather bag with two smaller flap covered pockets on the front while two draw strings kept the top of the bag closed. Grinning like an idiot Jazz reached for the bag and dragged it to her, opening it and looking in side the brunette began to pull out random items from the bag. I stared in astonishment at the items that were being pulled out: kunai, shuriken, candy, apples, note books, pencils, oil pastels, wrenches, bolts. You name it and it was there. “Holy Hell, is that thing bottomless or what?” I asked as I scooted closer and watched as she pulled out two manila envelops, one with her name on it and the other with mine. “I don’t know but there’s a shit load of Mountain Dew from what I can see.” Jazz said as she reached in and pulled out two bottles and taking one I also grabbed the file with my name written on it.
Flipping it open I saw all my basic information, and it turns out I actually weigh a hundred-thirty pounds instead of over that. Good thing I have a good metabolism, I’d look like an Akimichi clan member if I didn’t. I thought idly as I continued onto another page that had my police record (which was spotless) and had everything else I would need to apply for a job, the only thing that was different was that where our names would go there were blanks. Peeking over Jazz’s shoulder I found the same for her, and just like mine where her name would be on many documents were blank.
“I’m gonna take a wild guess here and say that the Higher Power wants us to change our names, and really I agree.”
“Yeah? Why would you wanna change your name?”“Because our names are English and we need to protect our true names, ya know like super heroes or something so that no one can use like dark magic or something like that against us.” I explained as I thought of all the names I could use for my new name. “Fine, but I say we take the same last name, so people will think we’re sisters or something.” Jazz said taking a swig of her large Mountain Dew drink while I just nodded absent mindedly. “Alight then my name is now Koi Komamura, what about you? What did you change your first name to?” I asked looking over at the younger girl after I had finished writing in my new name in all the blank spaces.
“Akara.”
“Sweet, now all we gotta do is get some jobs and a place to stay.”
“One problem, we don’t even know where we are. Or in what direction a town or village could possibly be.”
“True but we won’t know until we get off our asses and find out, now come Akara. It won’t be long until the sun sets and we got a lot of ground to cover.” I said and stood, being sure that I had thrown every thing back into the bag before pulling the laces shut and tying them into a knot so that nothing would fall out. With a nod Akara stood next to me and we began our journey to a new life.
