I take inspiration from many sources, and try to write something new that conveys thoughts and ideas not commonly found in fiction or, even more so, in fanfiction. The piece I'm writing now, for example, is based in Star Wars, but contains many elements not commonly found in Star Wars fanfics, and is not centered around the characters found in the films, games, and so forth (in fact the main character is from Kansas). I use the Star Wars universe as a convenient background for discussing humanity in the real world-- why we do the things we do, for better or for worse, and how things could be. I try to write more in the style of non-fiction, to bring in more elements of reality (H.G. Wells, my favorite author, was a master of this). Feel free to offer constructive criticism and comments-- I may not do what you tell me to, but I will give you a listen, and I appreciate input.
